Beekeeping is a superb way of helping the poorest people, who do not
own any land, to get an income. Honey and wax are commodities of high value almost
everywhere. Furthermore, as women in many areas of the world are restricted in their
movements outside their home, teaching beekeeping to women is an excellent way of helping
these women to generate a "cash crop", since beekeeping can be conducted from
the back yard of a house.
