Professional experience record
1980-present: Head of the apicultural and bee pathology section at Chemisches und Veterinäruntersuchungsamt, Freiburg (former: Tierhygienisches Institut, THI).

Experience
After his graduation he was enrolled as researcher in a research programme concerning control of varroosis.

Since 1980, he has been head of the apicultural and bee pathology unit at Chemisches und Veterinäruntersuchungsamt, Freiburg (CVUA). His responsibilities are diagnosis and control of honeybee diseases in Baden-Würtemberg, and advise of county veterinarians and bee inspectors.

Furthermore, W. Ritter holds a professorship in 'organic agriculture' at Kassel University.

Work in developing countries
Research projects on bee diseases in e.g. Yemen, Tunesia, and the Caribian islands.

Present research
Bee pathology with focus on varroosis including control and secondary infections.

Membership of Professional Bodies

W. Ritter is expert and head of reference laboratory concerning bee diseases of the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) in Paris. He is president of Apimondia's standing commission for bee pathology and member of the bee disease council of the German Beekeepers' Association.
